My boss views what I post on Facebook as we are “friends” on there. I never had any issues posting about politics and current events. But this was one that genuinely affected me and my people. Recently I posted up a profile picture stating that I stand with a particular country (I won't say which one). I got a call after work from my boss (who owns the car shop) asking me about the picture, saying that he has been death threats and that he needs me to delete the picture. So I called up my dad, and he said because of the conflict and the war he would not blame my boss and he would agree to delete the picture especially if I am promoting our business on Facebook with cars and parts for sale.
I still don't understand. As a worker, I should be able to express however I feel about certain issues, granted they aren't racist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise overtly controversial. I see literally most of my other family members especially on my dad's side talking about the same issue as I have, and for some reason only I'm the one being told what to do. Not to mention this is on my personal profile, not our work page.
I have been working with him since 2019, albeit with a long absence from the job due to COVID. He still pays me slightly lower than minimum wage here in California, and much lower now (the general excuse is that I am on SSI and the wage does not include taxes).
