I printed HR lunch policy. Now my lead cried and reported me.

I have been with this organization for 7 months. My boss is the VP and doesn’t directly manage me. I rarely see him, so my lead supervises me. However, I report to my boss. The thing about my lead is that she loves to micromanage. During her two year, she has made two people in my position leave. Our lunch policy is one hour. We are salaried. I usually take lunch for 45 minutes because I hate being in the same room as her. She doesn’t take lunch and would spend about 10 minutes snacking everyday. Anyway, she expects me to not have lunch for more than 30 minutes. Recently, she has been calling or texting me whenever it’s 35 minutes and making fake excuses for me to go back in the room. She would say that that forgot where certain files were or needed help with some basic technical difficulties. Sometimes when I rush to her, she would say she found it figured it out. I know she’s purposely doing it to ruin my lunch.

I asked HR for the policy and had it handy. I waited until she made a comment and would give it to her. One day, she said, “Where were you?Do you usually eat slow?” She said it with a smile and soft voice, which I knew it was a snarky comment. I told her that HR lunch policy is one hour and she told me that it was not true and I should still come back to work within 30 minutes even if it was true. I politely said it to her.

I gave her a copy then she went to my boss and cried to him. She said I was disrespectful when she just wanted to mentor and ensure I would become successful. This is a specialized field, and my lead needs to teach me to function within the organization.

My boss, the VP, had a meeting with me and told me to work my best with the lead. I asked him what he meant and he just said that just try to get along with her.
