I quit and reported my company for illegal activity. They have now fired a coworker because she got a ride from me.

I reported a residential care facility for failing to meet staffing for our clients as well as medication violations and client neglect. They’re currently under investigation by DSPD, APS and the Division of Licensing. I have not been back on property since I quit. However, I still occasionally see my old clients because I help with the monthly disability dance. My former coworker asked if she could get a ride to this dance since her car was in the shop. I said okay and she verbally confirmed with her new boss if this was okay. I was there for the phone call so I heard that everything would be fine and we were both reassured that this wouldn’t cause any drama. However, I still occasionally see my old clients because I help with the monthly disability dance. My former coworker asked if she could get a ride to this dance since her car was in the shop.

She was fired today for getting a ride from me, she was told it was due to her lying about the situation. Her new boss and HR are claiming she said she HAD to get a ride from me because there was no room in other employees cars. She never said any of this. There was no lie.

I also have a current background check and written permission from all of the clients guardians that I can come see them. So legally there should have been zero issues. I was giving staff a ride and didn’t interact with any clients until I was off property and at the dance.

This woman got fired for nothing and I feel so bad about it. She’s only been employed for a month so I believe she doesn’t meet the minimum requirements for unemployment. But she’s the sole breadwinner in her family so I know this will have a massive impact on her and her children.

I am just in shock that this company can do happily risk the livelihoods of their staff because I stood up for what was right. I feel really disgusting about myself and I’m not sure how I can help out my former coworker
