I work for a fairly large company in the U.S.
There has been a slew of layoffs, offshoring, and automation within my company the past 6 months. Nothing that made the news, sadly.
Reducing some departments by 70%.
There are members of my company being sexually harassed by customers and others being bullied by their own managers. Any complaint to HR is brought to the offender or ignored and usually leaves the employee worse off.
I'm pretty fed up with it all. I joined the IWW just out of class solidarity about a year ago and I just emailed them today about my options. If there's better options besides the IWW, I'm open to it, I've heard some criticisms of the IWW as an actual union. They're just who I know.
In a survey they sent out today about how they can “better support us to become a high preforming company” I threatened them with unionization if they don't reevaluate their choices and to do a better job supporting and empowering employees.
I don't plan on this being an empty threat. I've spent the day reading and it seems to boil down to just working with an existing union to get the votes.
Any and all tips are appreciated.
I also understand I probably shouldn't have said anything but I'm angry. I'm pissed. I'm tried of every day at work being part therapy for my colleagues.
