I was once in rehab and got out some months ago after my life seemed to have hit a new low. I got myself together for awhile now but it has been a pain finding a job. Especially given I'm in rural Arkansas. I'm located just above Greenbrier.
Recently I got hired! A job finally contacted me and we went over the details for an electronics position. The job is full-time and will pay starting 43k a year, which down here is great and for me personally, would be a 100% turnaround. Given my location and situation it's also the only option, I passed the interviews and accepted the opportunity.
I showed up for an orientation and like a ton of bricks they gave me a requirement that they never mentioned on the phone or in my in-person interviews before: They REQUIRE me to go for one day, to their main Little Rock Arkansas branch for training, and to finish registering my employment with the company. The problem is I don't have a car, which they knew, and they are giving me a firm **deadline of 2pm Monday(tomorrow)*” to show up, rejecting any negotiation. Given they are short staff, they will remove me as an employee if I don't show and will be replaced. This creates a new barrier to real change.
I don't have anyway or know anyone to get there, and I've been struggling while looking for jobs nearly out of resources. Already I'm soon going to lose my current residence I'm staying at and may be on the street for two days until another arrangement happens next weekend, whether I get the job or not, but at least I'll have a job ready if I can keep this
So I can't afford to lose this opportunity. I'm tired of not having enough to eat, wondering how long i can stay somewhere, not having the resources to help myself etc, and want that to change. But this obstacle, which they neglected to tell me earlier, is preventing me from finally starting to turn my life around.
The only option is rideshare, but I have no resources to pay what's needed to use it:
The cheapest option as you can see in the link is $50 which Is already an obstacle and showcases the distance needed to get to the mandatory location. But that's just to get there, I would need another $50 to get back home, meaning that I would NEED $100 minimum by 2PM tomorrow to get to the training location, get back home, and keep my new job. Once the one day of training is over, I'll be working at my local branch no.longer requiring travel.
Out of desperation, I hurt my credit trying to apply for several admittedly, bad credit companies, but all were rejected. Though given their activities, I may have dodged a bullet by not having to deal with predatory creditors, but it doesn't get me closer to a solution.
I'm running out of time and I don't know what to do. It seems like I'm being taken advantage of, especially as I have no choice, this job is the only one that called and is available, I don't have the resources to continue without one any longer, and it pays more than enough for me to rebuild my life.
I just want all the struggling to end, but I have no idea how to get around this price hurdle to get there, so I'm asking for help in finding a solution. An obstacle artificially created by the employer.
