I had recently posted on social media about receiving a written notice for attendance due to a medical issue. All my mangers were aware of me having bad nerves in my tooth and were trying to give me advice and doctors. I took two days off and was told I should give a doctors note. Well i don’t have insurance and get paid minimum wage so I couldn’t afford a doctors note, only the root canal. I informed my managers and came to work everyday in pain until my appointment since the attendance was becoming an issue.
So I posted that my job can kiss my ass and I’ll quit with laughing emojis (clearly joking with who i thought was just my facebook friends) and they had high expectations with minimal pay on my private facebook. It was accidentally made public (on the story part) however I never posted my companies name or have them anywhere on my page or the post. One of my coworkers or managers was stalking my private facebook and reported the post.
A day later my boss confronts me with a screenshot stating that if I feel like I don’t belong i should let him know if I want to quit. I told him I was honestly just joking and it was meant to be private. He stated we would revisit this later and see how I was feeling about the job.
After this, I was off put by them finding a social media post when I don’t have any coworkers on my page, so I was stand-offish. I wasn’t as friendly with anyone and just kept it work related moving forward. I felt I couldn’t trust anyone since no one was friends with me prior to this post being given to him. So i didn’t know who reported it and how they even found my page.
So, today I was terminated due to performance issues. My store manager told me my performance wasn’t up to standards right after my other manager gave me a good monthly review. My store was a union location, but I was terminated when the steward went on vacation not immediately after the facebook post. I don’t think I want to fight for a minimum wage job tbh. So wish me luck on the job search!
