So this happened years ago but I still remember it like yesterday.
I used to work in IT for a very big a well known global company.
One day my manager schedules a meeting with my team and tells us we are all going to made redundant and will unfortunately loose our jobs.
I then have a one on one meeting with my boss and his boss to go into further detail about it. I guess I was a bit naive because I always assumed my job would be safe as the business I support they need at least one person to do the on-site IT support stuff which is what I did.
Before the meeting ends I asked what was going to happen to the business I support and he tells me some bullshit about how the job will be now handled by some third party IT contractor? I’m still not even sure how that’s an actual redundancy as someone else will be going my same job??
And then he has the balls to ask me to meet this guy who is my replacement and train him as I’m such a nice guy and will help out. I was shocked and speechless and just said um yes ok and that was it.
After sleeping on it the next day I grew some balls and I told my boss that it was bullshit and I wouldn’t train this guy.
I did my final two weeks and apparently the guy who would cover for me whenever I went on leave trained this guy but because he too was eventually getting made redundant he told me he just gave him the most basic training and left a bunch of stuff out.
I don’t know what happened afterwards but I still wonder how it was legal when it was a redundancy that wasn’t really a redundancy as someone else just not directly employed by my old employer was doing my same job.
