I am now unemployed. This is the third time in 2 years this has happened to me. I am college educated and working restaurants to put food on the table. But I can’t even keep a job at a restaurant apparently. I stepped down from management position back into bartending at this place (I was originally a server/bartender) because my schedule wasn’t balanced. My GM loathed me for it. Over the course of 3 months she stopped scheduling me lucrative shifts and made it impossible to pick up shifts. When I would work, they would give me a bad section or put me at the service bar but have the servers go elsewhere for drinks. It was humiliating and people newer than me were getting better shifts. I would cry in the bathrooms after getting yelled at for inane inconveniences that nobody else was yelled at. People started being cold to me and hostile openly. One of my coworkers who used to be nice said on my last shift, “You couldn’t find a bar near your house to work?” I remember being so shocked I couldn’t respond.
They created a situation to take me off the schedule: I got coverage for my shift, but they never “approved” the coverage. On purpose. So my coworker shows up for me and they treated it like a no call no show. When I checked our shift application, I saw that 8 coworkers had called out that same night. They informed me 24 hrs later that I would no longer be on the schedule and removed me from the group chats.
It hurts so bad even though I knew it was coming
