I saw this article that happened a few months ago. I work for a Marriott in banquets in California getting paid $15.50 + gratuity. Every check I've gotten, they never itemize the gratuity to see how much I made per day, they just add a random number. We have meetings regularly about the tips and HR is very, very indirect. Lies a lot. The lady in charge told us she would give us itemized checks. That she didn't want to lose any of us. Well nothing. Meeting after meeting and she acts like she will do it and never does.
I checked the money that each client spends on banquets. Massive amounts and the server fee high enough. Well HR tells employees that they split the gratuity among everyone depending on how many hours they contribute, even housemen are part of the pool. Still though she doesn't show any details.
I worked only 1 day 2 weeks ago and I was able to kinda break it down and I saw my gratitude was probably 2-3 dollars extra. Like for such big events and the amount companies spend is unbelievable. A lot of my coworkers are sheep and tolerate it because they have to take care of their families. Is there anything I can do to expose it and hopefully get some good checks?
