I would like to hear opinions on a new job offers pay.

Not sure what context I should provide. I’d like to not out the place as to not tempting the job offer if someone who works there sees this. Here’s my best explanation of the situation: I am a mid thirties male in cap hill area of Denver. I have been working since I was 15 with very little gaps. I have expert kitchens and janitorial to administrative work for the House of Representatives. Most recently I’ve been doing doordash/Amazon flex since the pandemic. I’ve had salaried jobs and hourly jobs. I haven’t had a job that included tips in. VERY long time so i have no clue what the exposure be around that nowadays. I recently had an interview for a smaller breakfast restaurant opening soon. The interview went well and I was stoked on it. The position was BOH prep with the u seats ding that if it got busy I’d be willing to jump out and help them on the line. This is a toast/smoothie place so nothing too crazy. Here’s where I need some help with understanding if this could be lucrative for me or not. I am a single dude who coparents a six year old I have part time custody of. So like most people I have a certain amount I have to make to survive.

That offered me the job at a pay rate of $15.85 plus tips and they assured me that it would never be less that $18.50 an hour after tips. Does anyone work in Denver and have a similar type job? Do you actually make enough tips to make up the difference? I live frugally but I can’t fathom working 40 hours a week to not make enough to cover my bills and depending on tips to hopefully make up the difference.

For context my monthly hills are around $2,000 a month. I live in a studio that all included is $1200 a month. I don’t own a car. I give my kids mom $400 a month. My cell bill is $30. Renters insurance is $20. Subscriptions is $20 (Spotify & Hulu). I usually spend around $100-$125 on food a week. I don’t drink and I hardly ever eat out. I spend $80 a month on marijuana.

Any help from anybody who works a similar job and can help me understand if they make enough in tips would be greatly appreciated.
