I have been with a company that does the same thing over and over and think we are stupid enough not to notice? Here is something that reoccurs frequently that I am no longer surprised by. Several employees have left due to this (look it’s hard finding another job with my current circumstances I’m stuck until I find something else too) every year or so a “review” if you can call it that happens. In this review it’s more or less “show us why you are good enough to stay” but here is the kicker- they’ll set you up with monthly meetings with your manager to make it look like they are invested in “your career growth” and have you focus on that area or “growth opportunity” then the review happens and they go “oh actually you need to work on this then we can review in a few months” rinse and repeat – each review something new so you are constantly “so close to the next level just work on this one thing” – how can you be so close and work on1 new thing every few months? Doesn’t make sense to me to move the goal posts – I ask for exact timelines for reviews, what exactly is needed and it’s always the same “no exact timeline but I’m sure soon!” Can’t the company just come out from The gaslighting and say it outright ?? “We will not be providing raises” – “being transparent “ is their favorite outright lie.
