“If you have a problem with it, there’s the door”

I never thought this would be a serious saying in a business untill I heard it from the President of our 120 person specialty manufacturing company today. Our department was sent a meeting invite with HR, and a few managers. The 7 of us enter the room, sit and wait for HR to show up. She comes in, sheepish, and says she needs to speak with out Lead before continuing. They leave the room for 10 minutes. HR returns alone, and in comes the new department manager. We are informed of our leads termination and that we will answer directly to management now. Then the President comes in, visibly angered. He rails about the need for transparency with project management. That he will no longer tolerate any pushback about any decision made. What is worse is the department lead was also my long time partner. We had been together long before working here, and when she became the department lead, I took on roles in other parts of the process so she wasn't my direct supervisor.

Corporations have no room for compassion. There is no room for feelings, or suggestions. You make things that make money for shareholders. That is all.

I had been actively looking for work. I hate that I need to go into work tomorrow, but bills are still owed and the world moves on.
