I made a mistake saying I’d be flexible for my job thinking I could get a raise. Even spoke to the DM and he said he would look into it.
Nothing.
Now I’m the guy who is scheduled the shit shifts and shit days no one wants to work.
It started off as me “taking one for the team”. The job needed to cut hours and asked if I could jump onto another store to work. I said sure thinking it was only for a few weeks. It lasted 7 months. Meanwhile the rest of the crew kept their desired work days and full 40 hour status while I drove up to 36 miles out of my way to work a few days at random stores on any shifts they wanted to work me.
When I came back working my normal store they saw what I did as me being “flexible”. I would lose my Monday-Friday shifts. Early morning. Work chaotic days with split days off and odd shifts. Weekends because no one would budge on working them. Someone took time off and had a shitty shift? Guess who had to work it cause no one else would? Me.
“Oh everyone else can’t work those times or days, you want 40 hours a week right? Then work these hours. Everyone else has family, other priorities, but not you – you did say you’re open to any time.”
Do not leave yourself open to “any time, any shift”. Set your work hours and never budge. Never allow your job to see you as flexible because they will abuse the fuck out of you. And why? Easier to piss one person off then to piss off a crew forcing others to work shitty shifts they don’t want to work in a rotation.
