Illinois Workmen’s Comp Claim

I rolled my right ankle at work, got my foot caught in between two boards on a pallet, my foot rolled to the left. I went to the ER that day (11/20/22). They determined it was a sprain. I see a doctor that following Tuesday (11/22/22). Doctor gave me a walking boot, and my restrictions were mostly sitting and walking when needed. I work at Lowe’s and I’m an unloader/stocker (official job title). I was told today (12-1-22), I would not be getting paid for my missing days. Why? My caseworker says, “I was told there was light work available.” On 11/22/22 I turn in my paperwork to my manager.

Why? My caseworker says, “I was told there was light work available.”

On 11/22/22 I turn in my paperwork to my manager. I told her and I quote, “I’m assuming I can’t work because they have me sitting all day. I don’t know if there’s anything here for me to do that I could do.”

Manager says “Okay”, to me. Then my manager says to the health worker* (*not sure of her exact job title), , “Is there anything [OP] can do?” The health worker replies, “No.”

So here’s where I get conflicted. I go to my job today (12/1/22) after being told what I was told earlier. The manager said ,”You told me you couldn’t work.”

So now it’s a case of “miscommunication.” Should I consider legal action? Am I able to take legal action? Or is it too open ended and too much “he said, she said.” And my manager said it was “Like a 2 to 3 minute conversation” between her and I.
