I recently got a promotion. Did really well. Excelled above most of my peers on a daily basis, and without incident. Everything went well.
It was a temporary role. You know, the kind where you train.. and if you excel, they move you to another market. This is common practice. All of my peers went through this process.
I was told I was the best that they had ever had in the training role. I was applying to other opportunities in different markets.
I was asked to stay home and wait for a market in this region. I turned one of them down in another region. They would have me do new things, and when an area here came open, apply in.
I was in the car with the new guy that is permanent. He’s a great guy. Happy for him.
I heard my boss call him. I didn’t mean to hear it. I just did. It was loud.
My boss said, stop worrying about her. There’s a reason you got the role and she didn’t. She doesn’t have what it takes and you do.
WOW. What an ass. Soul crushing. Needless to say, I have a job interview Monday. I’m going to keep working and do a good job, but I want to get a new job before I get used up and spit out. I’m sad I heard that, but also glad I did. I was fully intending on going back into the role and pushing hard waiting for my new opportunity. I’m still going to work hard as long as I am employed, put in a notice when the time comes, and leave.
Why would they do that to me? I’m just venting I guess. I am super shocked by it. I really liked my boss, too. Don’t meet your heroes.
