I’m getting bad vibes about my new workplace

I started this week and I’m already thinking to call it quits. This is a credit controller position of which I have no experience in. I kinda went into this a bit blind thinking it was similar to an accounts receivable position of which I have great experience in. I will outline some of the red flags below: 1) They have like some sort of recorder which we are supposed to use and update during work hours. For example, if I am going out for lunch we have to change our status to ‘lunch’ and then that automatically resets the time limit up until we change to another status like to ‘training’ or whatever. The problem I have is we even got to do this when we go to the bathroom (recording how long we are in there for). I feel this is almost an invasion of privacy and that…

I started this week and I’m already thinking to call it quits. This is a credit controller position of which I have no experience in. I kinda went into this a bit blind thinking it was similar to an accounts receivable position of which I have great experience in. I will outline some of the red flags below:

1) They have like some sort of recorder which we are supposed to use and update during work hours. For example, if I am going out for lunch we have to change our status to ‘lunch’ and then that automatically resets the time limit up until we change to another status like to ‘training’ or whatever. The problem I have is we even got to do this when we go to the bathroom (recording how long we are in there for). I feel this is almost an invasion of privacy and that type of environment induces toxicity stiffness and nervousness in turn making me feel on edge all the time.

2) My supervisor said she is “not a micromanager” then proceeds to explain how she tends to ask us for an update on our tasks a lot. Plus the above issue. The dots connect.

3) I have been in three Teams meetings today with a senior credit controller who is training me and another newbie. The longest session lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. The senior did not even acknowledge the duration. He didn’t even say something along the lines of “Do you want a toilet break” or “Go grab yourself a tea or coffee”. I mean my butt was in pain as were my ears with the tight headphones they gave me.

My problem is I feel there is a very stiff work environment and I don’t think it’s something that is healthy down the line. Yes, all my colleagues are friendly, but I can see when the get to the meat of the process it is going to be hell. I’ve actually started sending out my resume to other employers because I’m someone who is laid back. I want to work in an environment where I can go stretch my legs or make my self a cuppa whenever I want (like an adult).I want to be able to speak to my colleagues for 5/10 minutes. I have never worked for a company that records how long we are in the rest room for or how long we are having a tea break.
