I was a freelance videographer from 2017-2023. I was making good income until Covid hit in 2020, income went to almost nothing and I lived off savings from 2020-2023. I got clients again but nowhere close to what I was at before. I finally went back and got a normal 9-5 job.
My supervisor of course asked me about this in my interview and one of her questions was “are you looking to be here long term or are you just looking to make some money until you get going again?”
I said long term because I need a job; probably wouldn’t have been hired otherwise. (Also note this is a boring desk job unrelated to videography). It’s only on my resume because I have to explain a 6 year gap. Though if I ever got wind in my sails that I could go freelance again, I would.
Supervisor now asks me almost everyday about my happiness, am I thinking of leaving, am I gonna quit one day, would I tell her if I was unhappy, do I miss freelancing, etc. I needed to leave work early last week for a small emergency and she dead asked me “you’re not going to an interview or taking a freelance client are you…?”
It makes me just want to quit and work somewhere else. I wouldn’t even give a 2 week notice because I can’t imagine working with her for 2 weeks when she is so terrified I am gonna quit.
