I’m so mad at my boss rn

So for some context: I work at a chiropractor office for $20/hr in S Florida. It’s a tiny office and it’s just me (front desk), the doctor, and the chiropractor assistant. They get along very well, if that matters. Well today we had a patient come in for her second appointment, and the doctor had asked me to have a conversation with her about the co-pay. So I did, and she stormed out. I then got in trouble for it, because apparently the front desk is not to be having any conversations about any co pays to the patients. The doctor is supposed to be having those conversations with the patients. The doctor has been asking me to talk to patients about co pay for awhile now. I absolutely hate confrontation but I brought this up to the Dr, and he acted like he didn’t know what I was talking…

I absolutely hate confrontation but I brought this up to the Dr, and he acted like he didn’t know what I was talking about. He just gave me a “huh” look said okay, and that was it. Our District Manager (she’s also a Dr) is coming into the office this week. I don’t know if she is going to try to talk to me about what happened (she’s very nice) but if she doesn’t should I bring this up to her? Unless she brings it up to me it’s kind of a moot point (and if she does bring it up I will tell her the truth) but I’m so frustrated with the fact that I feel like the Dr threw me under the bus and I’m getting the blame for doing something the Dr asked me to do. And then when I told
Him about that, that was his response. No accountability, no apology. Now he is just happily chatting away while I’m over here seething. Why do people do this???
