Antiwork

Im sure the millionth post about being frustrated with employers reluctance to WFH- but slightly different.

I desperately want to WFH full time, for all the reasons everyone else does. But a different take on it, is that I am learning spanish. During the pandemic I started teaching myself spanish through comprehensible input. Right now (2 years in) I am at a point where I know I would be able to be at the next level, if I had the ability to live in a spanish speaking country for even a month. Almost all jobs where I am located, say on their listings “strong preference for spanish speaking ability” if not “spanish speaking required” Cool, but for the people who don't know spanish, can you give us the opportunity to learn? But instead my job is hellbent on requiring us to come into the office 3 days a week to sit in a freezing, windowless office that I can't even call my own- as I have an office mate. When I think about me sitting in my office, with my space heater on, sitting in an uncomfortable chair, in uncomfortable work clothes in contrast to envisioning me in a vibrant multi colored airbnb in Columbia and taking breaks to get coffee, speaking spanish to natives along the way, I get so irritated.

Its like all I am asking for is to not come into the office. I will do all the same work… just not here. Why can't you just give me this one thing?
