Inappropriate comments from boss.

Hello all. My wife is facing some issues at her job and I don’t know the best route to take. Monday my child had a febrile seizure and turned blue. The ambulance had to be called and my wife had to leave work early. She never calls off and she already had the rest of this past week (Tues- Friday) scheduled off with PTO. As soon as she left work the owner of the store she works at (she is the GM) starts telling the staff that she never gets anything done and always calls off and just goes off on her while she’s on the way to the hospital. Hello all. My wife is facing some issues at her job and I don’t know the best route to take. Monday my child had a febrile seizure and turned blue. The ambulance had to be called and my wife had to leave work early. She never calls off and she already had the rest of this past week (Tues- Friday) scheduled off with PTO. As soon as she left work the owner of the store she works at (she is the GM) starts telling the staff that she never gets anything done and always calls off and just goes off on her while she’s on the way to the hospital. She has called off twice. Once last October when this happened the first time with our child, and once in December. She has not called off once since and anytime she has it is completely covered and she works from home. She continually meets her goals set at work, and her entire staff loves her. Her employees came to her with this because they felt it was way off. The guy is a young dude that has never worked for another company, and frequently shows his naivety on how to handle situations but never this badly. What is the best course of action for my wife to take with this? She has medical excuses from two doctors about her inability to return to work, was scheduled off already, and went back earlier than the doctors wanted. I feel this is extremely inappropriate behavior on the owners part. (Clarification. When I say “owner” he is a glorified GM of a couple stores that are owned by corporate. He just owns a small part of them.)
