Incompetent Manager Nearly gets Employee Shot

As of the writing of this post, a little over twelve hours have passed since the incident. I work at a small, privately owned gas station in a densely populated urban area of one of the largest cities in the country, a place absolutely filled with drug addicts and gang violence. As of the writing of this post, a little over twelve hours have passed since the incident.

I work at a small, privately owned gas station in a densely populated urban area of one of the largest cities in the country, a place absolutely filled with drug addicts and gang violence. I work the night shift, but luckily, I am completely safe behind bulletproof glass and only serve through the window.

The Christmas week schedule was no different than normal, with the manager working Monday morning as she always does, but for some unknown reason, she changed the schedule at the very last minute on Sunday night so she and her sister (assistant Manager) can have Monday off, forcing one of our young (17) new hires to work completely alone at 6am the day after Christmas.

She ended up being half an hour late to work due to having next to no notice about the schedule change, and I ended up leaving shortly after. So now we have a tiny 17 year old girl working in a gas station alone at seven in the morning in a terrible neighborhood the day after Christmas. Can you guess what happens next? She gets robbed at gunpoint, has her life threatened, and now has to deal with the trauma of nearly being shot.

I'm glad there are such responsible and caring managers out there, I hope the extra sudden day off was worth it.
