Is being direct now considered rude? – hospitality worker who is quitting.

Im leaving this godawful job. I work in the kitchen as a cook in training and a KP. We’ve been understaffed for a while, people don’t bother to show up and front of house talks down to us. They’ve not hired people in the kitchen until recently. A few weeks ago, I was working as the KP and a cook on a busy Saturday and Friday night. They’ve hired a bunch of new front of house people who seem nice but don’t understand how to clear plates away and where to put them so I let them know. I used to say please can you do this in a sweet high pitched voice but no one ever listened to me so I just started being direct and saying “please don’t stack things incorrectly, put like with like ect.” The front of house manager informed me that the FOH staff think…

I used to say please can you do this in a sweet high pitched voice but no one ever listened to me so I just started being direct and saying “please don’t stack things incorrectly, put like with like ect.”

The front of house manager informed me that the FOH staff think I’m being rude and that I have to speak to them like they’re children. These people are the same age as me plus or minus 1/2 years. No way I’m talking to a 22 year old like they’re a child. If you think it’s acceptable to throw things at me and not clear plates then I have my right to tell people what not to do. I always say please and thank you but I’m not going to beg people to do their job correctly when I’m working 2 jobs because someone called in sick or they’ve only put 3 people in the kitchen on a Saturday because they want to cut wage costs.

I did listen and I made sure to be sweeter in my delivery but honestly ok sick of the job. For various reasons:
– racist and sexist general manager who gets drunk and says bigoted things
– people calling in sick all the time, esp one of the other Kps who calls in sick every Wednesday because she knows ill have to do her job as well as mine. This person works once a week lol.
– front of house wants to control the kitchen.
– we have no head chef. Last one lasted less than me and I’ve been here 6 months.
– around miserable vibes.
– one of the chef’s hygiene is so bad that his uniform smells like a homeless man.
– we have a huge roach and pest issue. Pigeons come in and shit on the floor.
– really old grimes kitchen, needs to be pulled apart and reinstalled.
-we don’t mop, like ever. Poor cleaning in general because there’s not enough people.
