So I’m 23M and I do odd jobs, meaning I don’t have a specific role. My job title is “independent labor for hire.” Sometimes depending on the job I’m doing I might work with another more experienced person, like when I do landscaping or gardening I’ll get paid by a boss but other times I get paid in cash directly, like if I’m mowing lawns or shoveling driveways. I do all my labor under the table. I still live in my parents house and I do all their grocery shopping and cleaning to be nice. I graduated college in 2023 with a decent GPA and an irrelevant degree. I’ve applied to white collar jobs but have had no luck. They expect so much experience but what kind of experience would someone my age even have? I had a solid internship junior year which I thought would give me a leg up. My parents encourage me to keep applying and they’re supportive of me doing odd jobs, but friends of mine from college think it’s “not a real job” or they ask “what are you planning to do?” I think I’m realizing I’m not cut out for corporate or office jobs. I have ADHD and school isn’t that enjoyable, I have a very hard time with reading comprehension and focusing. I don’t wanna spend decades doing pointless meetings and documents. I wanna work with my hands. I feel satisfied like I accomplished something. I don’t feel satisfied looking at spreadsheets and stuff. I was thinking of applying to work at the town highway department.
