Is the whole hustle culture in North America getting completely out of hand?

I am working in a field that doesn't require an extreme sense of urgency.. I am not saving people's lives or performing complex surgeries, etc. I am planning my work well ahead of time and everything is usually getting done before its due. However, it feels like the hustle culture is on the rise in that company and working longer hours/working on the weekends is encouraged more and more often, but never rewarded. The worst part is that there are people who willingly take that crap and even seem to be super happy about it. We literally have people who are proud of skipping lunch breaks so they could be focused on work even when there are no urgency at those things at all! The work schedule is not 9-5 anymore; it is more like 8-6 plus we expect you check your e-mails in the evenings and weekends…. The most infurating part is that the management is stressing about things/issues which are not urgent or top prioity at all.. Like I could get a text after 10 PM to look into a thing that would literally wait until next morning with 0 loss to the business and anobody else involved. I swear it wasn't all like this a couple of years ago even though back then there were far more “urgent” and “high priority tasks”.

And the economy is going completely downhill… housing costs are over the roof, food prices keep rising, but salaries are still stagnant… It feels like the whole hustle culture is doing more bad than good… It is only benefiting the top 0.05% and that's it!
