I got offer a new job after being headhunted by recruiter. Job was advertised fulltime, but my recruiter put me forward as a part-time candidate as I do not work fulltime. Offered job pending references.
References have taken 2 weeks to clear. It's nearly been 3 weeks with no contract. (luckily i wasnt actively job searching so could sit on it a while) I suggested to my recruiter working on condensed hours to start earlier once contracts were through to minimise delay. The condense hours were to accommodate projects I already have assigned because I have been accepting contract/project work as per usual until I got my contract. They thought this was a great idea to suggest, so I asked them if they thought the employer would consider this as more long-term to accommodate evening study in the new year. It would have only been finishing a few hours earlier on my final working day of week. We put forward the suggestion as condensed hours for evening study and it's blown up in our faces as a lack of commitment on my part suggested by new manager.
The rejection I was prepared for, but the suggestion of my lack of commitment blindsided me. I don't even have a contract with this company yet. Me working for them part-time instead of fulltime has been suggested as them already being flexible too me. My part-time working hours and days aren't even confirmed, I thought we were having an open dialogue pre-contract. I'm also still being asked to start before the end of my notice period, and attend a handover meeting with a staff member before my contract is due to start.
It cant be just me who thinks this sounds all a bit mad!?
