I posted the original issue on r/AITA because I wasn’t sure if I was in the wrong. Basically, I was told somebody in my team (I work in finance) had complained I was ‘bringing down team morale’ because I had mentioned I was significantly underpaid. She had agreed she was also underpaid, and when we shared what we were on it turns out she earned a lot less than me despite the fact she’s been at the company for many years before me.
She was angry about that and complained that I had been talking about wages and the cost of living crisis, and that I was ‘bringing down team morale’.
I was obviously upset and was looking for other jobs (I’ve since stopped as it turns out if I get a higher paying job I won’t be eligible for a grant I’m hoping to get to go and study next year).
ANYWAY forward to today – we had a meeting where we discuss bonuses. My boss let me know that I was receiving an ‘on target’ bonus instead of the ‘above target’ bonus I was expecting.
She said this is because the bonuses were set 6 weeks ago, and at the time the whole ‘bringing down team morale’ conversation had been happening.
I’m pissed because I HAVE been working above target and completing significantly more work than expected of me.
Considering bringing it to HR as I don’t think a complaint about me talking about how we aren’t paid enough warrants me being given smaller bonuses.
Another part of me feels like I’m being unreasonable because I still got a bonus.
What do you guys think?
