Hello everyone!
I've been working at the same place for a few years now, the work is interesting but over time and with seniority it has given me more and more work and responsibility, but the rewards have not improved that much. The problem is that the environment is heavy, the management is not the best and several colleagues have left, one after the other.
And now my turn has come, I was offered a great opportunity in another company and I decided to accept. I feel guilty because the company where I am currently is having a hard time hiring and everyone is leaving but I don't want to miss this opportunity.
I handed in my notice stating the legal date I would have to leave but I tried to negotiate with my boss to leave 1 to 2 weeks earlier (this job is not in the US so the exit timings are different and long)…but my boss wouldn't allow it.
My boss asked me to stay longer than legally necessary to make the job transition (I said no, that I would only stay as long as legally necessary) and the new company wants me to go as soon as possible.
I’m trying to negotiate with both parties but I need to negotiate with my boss to leave early because I don't want to look bad at the new company and I'm really excited about the new challenge.
Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to do this? I want to do it as smoothly as possible so as not to burn bridges.
Note: I like the company I work for and the boss, I just had a better opportunity come up elsewhere and the boss is not handling it well either.
