Job Angst

This year has really sucked. Between COVID and every other disease my daughter brought back from daycare and the Adderall shortage making it impossible for me to succeed at life, I feel like I've barely been able to do my job. Fortunately, the school I teach at seemed pretty cool about it – they knew about my ADHD, they weren't giving me a hard time about the missed days, I was getting the normal amount of feedback and fixing things based on it. It was a little embarrassing to find out that the students were spreading rumors about me being distracted by my laptop when they were working independently, but once I found out about it, I was able to change my habits.

Apparently that didn't matter, though, because they decided not to renew my contract for next year without ever telling me that the problems were serious or offering me support or coaching. This is my second year here – I really thought that – especially after a year of service – I had earned more respect than that from the administration, but I guess not.

So I'm in a pretty dark place about this. How can this school hope to create an environment where kids are valued and made safe when they can't treat the teachers like human beings? I don't think it's possible. This kind of attitude permeates an entire organization, from the top to the bottom.

I just wanted to vent, and this seemed like the right place. It's always helped a little when I've found any place where Internet people will commiserate.
