Job offer rescinded, rant

I applied for another in-company position, after going above and beyond for this company for the last couple years now. The position is a slightly higher labor grade, so I considered it a slight promotion, though the initial wage that my supervisor had given me was kind of low. I expressed that, and he came back with another verbal offer the next day, which I told him I would likely accept, after having a chance to talk about it with my wife. Today comes around, and I talk to my manager and my supervisor about the position, I was expecting a written offer. Instead I am told that the position isn't actually going to be hired for yet, and they decided to hold off for the moment. What is the point of going through all of that process just to pull it all away at the absolute last second? My…

They lost a solid employee today. That is all.
