I work at a grocery chain that competes with ALDIs. I was hired to open a new store. I trained at a different location until grand opening. I work my as off at this job. I dare say I’m probably one of their harder working employees keeping order in the department I was assigned to. I was always happy to fill in, stay late and step up. But the district manager put pressure on the store recently to cut hours and get rid of people in whichever way. Everyone got a day taken off their schedule. They just decided to send me to a different location where the person in the same department of the store as me suddenly and recently quit. I said I could pick up shifts at that location or temporarily help them out but vocalized that I didn’t want to transfer. I shopped at that store once because it’s closer to my home and the place is ran like absolute garbage. I saw extremely expired product on their sales floor the one time I shopped there. I suspect the person whose position I’m filling quit because of the poor management team piling on extra duties on them to make them be two workers in one.
I really like where I work. I finally got into my own groove, I get an extra 15 min break that other stores don’t afford to their employees. The entire team is friendly. I don’t want to transfer into some shit show where I’m being thrown to the lions.
Is there anything I can do about this? I didn’t agree to this, no one formally talked to me about this to confirm it with me. They legit just texted me my new schedule for this other store from a mystery number and haven’t responded to my concerns and questions.
I feel like shit that this company would just make me play musical chairs like this against my wishes. The pay is semi-alright compared to most places. They have decent health plans, they have sick days, PTO, Holiday pay and parental leave. But I don’t particularly want to work for a miserable location even if it’s 10-15 minutes closer to my home.
