Job trying to retroactively make me use PTO

I recently began working for a super dysfunctional small/mid size workplace a couple months ago. We’re (my duo and I) supposed to be hybrid but they kept pulling it back and forth. My direct boss has this habit of ghosting us and just not showing up sometimes for days and if it’s just me there I sit in a shitty empty office alone all day doing basically nothing. My duo had PTO yesterday and I was having a lot of pain yesterday so I told my boss I was going to work remote. I worked all day yesterday and today he finally responded and said not allowed and I would need to use a PTO day for working remote and if I didn’t have any it would be unpaid. I don’t think this is legal because I DID work. I’m salaried too. Ugh. I’m starting a new job soon anyway…
