I was out of work due to illness for 5 years. I'm just now trying to get back into working and making a steady income, at first I was just doing so out of dogged determination. Then as I started working I realized how much I loved working with people and talking to customers. I'm still ill and I know my limits, but the job I was hired in was a huge scam, promising me a two week training paycheck of 700 dollars. I didn't receive that money ever. “Well.. its just that sales weren't what they should be…” But I worked my ass off. “Well I mean yeah but there was no evidence of that hard work in sales…” I was out in less than 24 hours. Sick of the whole thing. Now that I'm submitting applications I'm running across jobs with the same structure; first 'interview' is a mass presentation of them selling the job. Pay is all commission. I'm so scared and wary that I'm going to fall for this whole thing again, and I don't know how to avoid it. Are there hallmarks of these companies? What am I doing wrong?
