Been at my current job for just about a year, sort of middle of the totem pole. Pretty good pay for the area, company was complete shit morally and ethically and I've been looking to get out for a few months now, but just haphazardly.
I was called in for an in-person meeting on an out-of-office day. Just my boss in our dingy, dark, and poorly maintained building. That sent my Spidey senses on edge, but figured I'd see what was up. I had had a few disagreements with my boss over a few work items recently but I never felt they were serious and were kept pretty professional. I was given new project work as early as last week.
Walk into the conference room and the HR director is on the screen, dialed in from wherever he lives. Was just told “After many discussions, we've decided today is your last day.”
The company doesn't do performance reviews or have any structure whatsoever around evaluating employees. I'm not going to sit here and claim I was the best, I definitely wasn't, especially after some of the shittier parts of the company and industry were made obvious. But I figured at most I'd be given a first and only strike or maybe a performance plan.
Oh well, I'm sure life will go on, but it'll be rough as hell for a while. Just bought a house about a year ago and I'm a single income household.
Stay strong, redditors.
