I feel so down cause I thought this front desk job at my college was going to help me gain experience. It was not fun for me because I had to work alongside the manager which made it so stressful because she saw everything I did and I was held at a very high expectation. I really did try to do my job but I had other responsibilities with school I was expected to put in so much effort and memorize every rule and procedure. I had to do a lot of things that didn’t allow me to develop my customer service skills and other skills required for the job which ended up hurting me. I only worked 10 hr weeks and some of them were slow days which didn’t allow me to show that I was doing good. They said I didn’t meet their expected evaluations after doing bad the first evaluation.
I realized I’m not going to try hard for a minimum wage job that had me stressed about things that I didn’t have to worry about. It was a learning lesson that colleges hire students to use them and then have high expectations like they are salary workers with no benefits. College students are taken advantage of because they really want to focus on their careers so they’re willing to put up with BS. Even if the department acted really nice and kind it was a big stab because I realized it’s all about exploiting the student. I was not helping students but I felt like a slave to the manager. I did the job the cause I wanted the experience and thought it would be good for me but college has really made me chase after a career .
