First of all pardon my English.
So I (25M) am a freelancer(I film and edit videos make 3D renders and do vfx and stuff). I have few long term clients and it's not much yet I am making good money compared to my age. My clients are pretty satisfied with the work I do and I have some things planned ahead to scale things up, make a team and establish an agency and stuff.
But my wife thinks that what I do is unstable. And I should rely on something with more stable income. I can't blame her. Cause I do have couple days every week where I don't have any work scheduled.
So I decided, to give it a shot. I saw a job requirement. I called them, and they appointed an interview. So when I arrived at the interview. First they kept me waiting for 1:30hrs. Finally they called me in and wow, there was no cellular network in the room. I asked them if I can have the wifi, so that I can show them my portfolio. They literally refused.
It was ok tho, since I forgot to move my last month's projects into a safe drive from my laptop, so I had enough to show off. He was impressed. Asked me to do 3 tasks as an “exam”. Two animations and a drone video for edit, pretty standard stuff. When I was finished, he said I did good and would like to discuss further.
So naturally I asked for salary as much as I earn on an average, which I understand is high since they're having their cut. So the efforts vs income ratio will not be as efficient as my freelancing. So I was ready to negotiate, but dude wasn't ready for a penny above 1/4th of my demanded salary. He also wanted a contract of 3 yrs. Which will also forbid me to work any other individual/company. Also I might have to work till 10PM if their client wanted revisions (they already have worktime to 9 to 6). And salary system here being per day instead of per hour, obviously there wasn't any overtime incentive.
Basically after 4 hrs of unpaid labour for the excuse of “exam”, he wanted to pay me like half of average cost of living, while forbidding me to work for other individuals, while forcing me 50+ hrs a week with no extra pay.
So, yeah, I had a terrible interview and a terrible day yesterday.
