This is mostly just a gripe and not an actual issue with my job, but I learned today that I’ll be having 4-5 long term goals assigned to me for continuing education, employee development, etc. That’s all well and good, and I appreciate that my supervisors want to help me grow in my career field, but they also want ME to come up with a goal or two for myself. Honestly my goal is to do my assigned work, make sure my reports are doing theirs, and go home at a reasonable time each day, and we’re short staffed so that last part isn’t even happening right now. Can’t I just collect a check in return for services rendered? Why am I supposed to assign myself extra shit to do? Again, it’s not a huge deal, but it irks me a bit.
