So I was hired on at a tile and flooring wholesaler to work in the tile sample production department. These samples would be given to the customer who turns around and resells the product as a demonstration of sorts. Sounds fairly tedious but not painstakingly bad.
Today I showed up for my first day of work and text my boss to see where exactly he wants me to meet him. He texts back saying that due to a change in leadership he has left the company. Ok, shit happens I guess. A more senior manager finds me and tells me “Yeah it’s kind of a shitshow, the higher ups are gonna be in meetings all day.”
Over the weekend shit hit the fan. CEO was fired, and my boss (who is the CEO’s son) just up and quit and flipped off the board members on his way out. My boss was the only one who worked in the department and knew how to run it, no cross training to be spoken of.
All the remaining executives spent a good chunk of the day in meetings, and it was decided that the sample production department would not be operating for the foreseeable future, and therefore my role was being eliminated effective immediately, less than 5 hours after I began work for this company.
They told me I did nothing wrong and I did great with my other assigned tasks, there is just not enough work to go around and that they will call me in 2-4 weeks to update me and see if I’d like to come back. Fuck them.
