I am a former teacher/social worker, but before that I did many years in the service industry (and had to come back to it for a second job). This is an example of using the same joke at the tables and getting chewed out by the self conscious ones. From that point forward, I kept everything professional, and used the “know your audience” approach. Eventually I made it to fine dining before changing careers entirely. But oh boy small mistakes can kiss a whole job goodbye, and it sucks because I bet there are people on here who have been fired for less.
