Just want to vent about it

I am in Property Management, and I am very good at my job. In fact, I am very proud of my resume; I have held several high level positions–from armed government contractor, to pharmaceutical manufacturer, to starting and running my own Non-Profit–and worked within the field of Property Management for three years. Am looking for new work. Went to an interview. Everything went great, I was going to have more authority, less to directly worry about, at a nicer property, with more money, everything seemed and ready to go. The last thing that had to happen was I had to meet the owner, cause it was a family business. Well, the owner comes in, sits down, looks over my resume.

He asks me all these questions, then says: “Well, it seems to me that you don't have a lot of experience.” I just blinked and sat silent, dumb-founded. What the fuck is the three years I have been doing this job, peanuts? Then he continued. “We are going to offer you SIXTEEN THOUSAND dollars less than what you are making now. It seems to me you need a good place to settle down for the long haul, and you haven't found that yet. So we're gonna give you a place to grow, and once you've been here for a bit we'll review your pay.”

Motherfucker. I spent two years at one job turning a property from a -9,500 a month whole into a +12,000 a month profit farm. I spent a year at another MUCH larger property basically managing a city. I literally didn't even say anything, I just shook my head, stood up, and started to leave. The woman who first interviewed me–and she was a very nice lady I will say–kind of chases me out, and is like “wait, wait! I'll try to work on him! Can you go meet our maintenance lead at the property, and get things started in the meantime?”

I just told them no. I appreciated her professionalism, but I was not in this business for the thrill of it, I have a family to support and my own ambitions. I was not going to play ball with a company that would even entertain the idea of low-balling me that bad. Then I just left. I know I did the right thing, but it's like…..man. What the fuck does a person have to do to get any recognition in this bitch, fucking cure cancer? It's such an obvious joke that you have to “work to get your foot in the door”. Motherfucker at one point is my foot fucking wedge up in that bitch, huh? How much work do I have to do before I'm in?

Oh that's right. Until you say so. Yeah….fuck that Im out. This is really the reason why people are just giving up on work. Anyway. #endrant thank you for attending my TED TAlk
