Keeping my laptop after a layoff

So the rules in my severance doc were that I needed to send the laptop back before signing the severance agreement, and that they’d share the shipping code with me. They never ended up sending the shipping code document, but I signed the doc before I shipped the laptop back and have already received the severance lump sum. Question is— can I keep it? What would happen if I kept it?
