My serving job started using kickfin. For anyone who doesn’t know Kickfin is a website that ‘helps’ restaurant workers get their tips. Employees can either pick to have a dollar removed every night from their tips (and get it instantly sent to your bank account), or have the money accumulate till the next pay cycle (so in my case every two weeks). I picked the every two weeks option because a dollar every shift I work adds up to a lot of money over time. My boss comes up to me today and tells me that I can’t do that anymore because they can’t tax that money or something? I’m just confused and upset because now I’m just giving my dollar to some random company that doesn’t even need to be in the mix for no reason? The paper I originally signed for the app only gave them permission to pay me every two weeks. Is this something I can even fight? I have never worked at a restaurant where I had to pay money to get my money.
