labor law needs an overhaul in the U.S

I work on the u.s east coast in a factory (sorry i have to be vague), I'm in the office tho. I do various administrative work. Lately, Mandatory 6 day weeks are common, although typically only 6 hours on Saturday.. compared to other factories in the area, we have it good. Most other manufacturers in the area work 7 days a week, all the time, No holidays. I don't understand how this is even legal. Why are employers even allowed to mandate these hours? It's inhumane. If you ask me, I'd say a law needs made to limit the maximum mandatory work hours to 40/week. As federal law currently stands, an employer could mandate a 24/7 schedule, that is absurd to me
