Hey all,
I live in the UK and there are no laws here that make it a legal obligation that your organisation to pay you any bereavement leave.
In the last few days my dad passed away, whilst my mother passed about 20 years ago. I'm 38 years old and I would assume most people tend to have at least one parent alive at this point.
Anyway, my company isn't paying me anything for the time I'll be taking off. I'm not surprised, we don't get sick pay, meanwhile the managing director has multiple holidays a year and many sports cars and 4x4s to enjoy.
So I really think any company that doesn't pay any sick or bereavement should be ashamed of themselves and I do think it should be written in to law that any direct family member passing (limited to Grandparents, Parents, Siblings, Spouse or kids) should be paid by the company for 5 days.
So it's not really a rant, whilst being a rant at the same time.
