Hello,
I currently work a supervisor overseeing a small group of case managers for an ORR program. I am about a year into this role but as of lately, the workload is so difficult that I have started interviewing for other positions.
To begin, the turnover rate is wild for case managers as case managers are expected to operate between 8 am to 10 pm 7 days a week. At this time we only have 3 case managers including myself. We are also salaried so we do not get paid for anything past 40 hours. Case Managers are expected to work holidays as well without additional compensation. Meanwhile, my program director always takes PTO on holidays and as of lately, has been pestering us about case files. These physical files are supposed to be managed by another position known as a case aide but we haven't had the position filled in several months due to the low pay and the requirement of a bachelor's degree. Since the case managers have had non stop work due to heavy influx of migrants and the deadlines that need to be met, the case managers have been unable to complete these files. In short, as soon as a migrant is sent to a sponsor, another migrant is inbound for the shelter. There is simply no time to complete these case files.
I have expressed to the program director about the lack of completion of these files but she has not offered any real assistance until her half assed plan now. She decided to bring all the departments leaders to assist with these case files for Sunday like it was going to immediately solve the issue. We would still be without the case aide and still have issues completing the case files. I expressed these concerns to the program director but was instead met with a dismissal of my concerns and how there is no room for budget adjustment, it is possible that the case managers can complete these files, and that this should have been a disciplinary action. My program director has never been in the case management department and relies on me as the subject matter expert. My team and I are burned out and exhausted and are ready to quit as all of us have low morale. We were told about this program director from past coworkers and even other administration members but it really is just insane now. Has anyone experienced something like this or have advice for dealing with this matter?
