At my last job, my manager said several times they knew I could make more money elsewhere but thanked me for staying committed to the company vision. I knew they were right, but foolishly thought I was contributing to a greater good given the company goals (mainly healthcare related). Then during performance reviews and compensation adjustments this past spring I got a pittance of a raise with no prior notice of poor performance. They said it was because money was tight at the company, but I know other employees who faired far better than I did.
I decided I wasn’t going to keep compromising my earnings potential for the company’s vision. Fast forward a couple months to now – I just started a new job at a 50% higher base pay.
Anyways, not much more to this post than that. Just wanted to say – know your worth and keep fighting for it.
