For background, I have many reasons to believe the company I work for is struggling. I feel like they gaslight a lot of us into thinking things are more okay than they are. It bothers me a lot, because for a long time I worked in my family’s struggling business. I took this job because it’s a well established company (over 50 years) and it seemed like i would finally have “stable” or “reliable” job without the constant worry of having to close or losing my job.
This is just one of many issues i have, this place is kind of a shit show run by unstable people.
A couple pay periods ago, my company started issuing paper checks after using direct deposit all year, stating an “ongoing issue with our time system”. I had my suspicions with this, because I hear and see a lot of what is going on when i feel like no one else does or pays attention.
Everything has been fine, with my bank it usually takes a day or two for the full balance to post. I deposited the check on the 5th, it posted on the 7th. I paid my bills, bought Christmas presents, etc, as one does when they get paid.
The morning of the 8th i get a notification that my account was overdrawn almost $800. The paycheck had been pulled from my account overnight. I called my bank and they said it was pulled because the issuing bank stated insufficient funds. I’m freaking out first thing in the morning because i’ve NEVER had something like this happen.
I call our accounts payable(my boss) and she tells me to gather the info and we will get it settled. she takes me to the bank when i get there and pulls the money out for me. all while saying “i don’t know what happened, obviously the money was in the account cause otherwise they wouldn’t let me pull it out etc…”
All of this has left me feeling MORE unstable than i already was. (which is pretty unstable) I’ve been here a year and i like the people i work with, but the general tone of instability is not great at all. There’s obviously so many more layers to this but i won’t get into that.
What are your opinions and do you think she was just saving face for this? I’m surprised i’m the only one this happened to.
