“Layed off” for cheaper hires

I had been with a carpentry company for 10 months now. Fresh out of a carpentry foundations course (which is a condensed school over 6 months to hit the ground running when you start work) Made it in everyday, was early, positive attitude and never had any complaints from my work. At 6 months they had given me a 7 dollar raise I felt like this was the company I’ve been looking for and was truly getting a true footing in my career and financial situation. I had a surgery date posted up for the last while 2 weeks off for post op. There was no problems no complaints. When I came back there were deadlines to meet so I stuck it out worked 11 hour shifts and just busted my body to help them get done what needed to be done.

The following day I was approached and laid off with no real reason besides it’s getting slow and they are subbing all the trades out.. I was the only one. Even after they hired much more inexperienced people.

After a day at home I ask for a phone call to explain in all honesty about why I was let go after having no warnings or any signals that I was doing a bad job.

The phone call was less than reassuring or made any sense whatsoever.
I was told that I was being paid too much for the work that is being done. And that they had no time or space to train me.

So what I had gotten out of this was, we are too lazy to train you.
And with the current work available we can get away with paying someone way less than what I was given as a wage.

I’m pissed, I’m backstabbed, and it reaffirms my beliefs that everyone’s out for themselves and workers are just numbers and meat no matter the friendships you hold.

Rant over
