Left my shitty job at a larger retailer after being treated horribly. Now work a high pay manual labor job.

That’s pretty much it. Was living in my car trying to make ends meet while coming off disability AND going to school full time. I was “the best employee” they’ve ever had. Cross trained everywhere, 3 tardies in one year (most get 3 a week) always stayed late, OT, never said no for almost 2 years. During that time I would apply and get rejected for promotions for what I later found out were made up reasons. The people who usually got promoted weren’t cross trained at all, late, and usually big time flirts with the managers. I was always the one put todo the hard job bc it’s “procedure” and I have “no seniority” even though I did. I’d get the worst schedule, worst jobs etc. When I was pushing carts they would force us to TIE THRASHBAGS AROUND OUR WAIST AND THROW TRASH IN THEM WE FOU D…

Was living in my car trying to make ends meet while coming off disability AND going to school full time.

I was “the best employee” they’ve ever had. Cross trained everywhere, 3 tardies in one year (most get 3 a week) always stayed late, OT, never said no for almost 2 years.

  1. During that time I would apply and get rejected for promotions for what I later found out were made up reasons. The people who usually got promoted weren’t cross trained at all, late, and usually big time flirts with the managers.

  2. I was always the one put todo the hard job bc it’s “procedure” and I have “no seniority” even though I did. I’d get the worst schedule, worst jobs etc.

  3. When I was pushing carts they would force us to TIE THRASHBAGS AROUND OUR WAIST AND THROW TRASH IN THEM WE FOU D IN THE LOT. No gloves unless we paid for it. When I brought this up and how we find needles and diapers and how this is dehumanizing I was told “use common sense” and “it’s procedure”.

  4. The final straw happened after I already had an exit plan: I was reprimanded after coming back for not working as hard as I once did. I brought up how I’m unfairly treated and was told “don’t let that defeat you” and to work hard anyways. They continued to give me the hardest jobs with no time to do it.

In my final small team meetings (they’re abt to vote on unionizing so mgt is freaking out) I told the bosses “when I break procedure, I get written up, when leadership breaks procedure, nothing happens”.

The raise I would have gotten was about 40% percent and I do believ I’d been more financially secure with it. But, I decided while I was out to have a back up plan and I did it.

From what I know my immediate and next level mgt got in minor trouble with one of them losing a promotion due to their failure to retain me and bc I let their ass up in the review. (Hearing the convo outside one the cages was so gratifying bc it was the mgr who screwed me).

Living in my car sucked but I also had to be ready to leave asap and I didn’t have money for a apartment and did t want to burden a friend.

I moved states and now make twice what I used to with free housing. The days are long and hard but im fairly compensated. I plan to never again be at the mercy of an employer one day and am saving and hope to start building other sources of income.
