Specialized Dog Sitter / Walker
Challenging Dogs Pet Care, LLC is hiring part-time to full-time Specialized Dog Sitters/Walkers in the Richmond, VA area. In this position you would provide overnight sitting, daycare or walking at clients’ houses.
Note: If your resume does not include any dog sitting or care experience, you must provide a brief cover letter about your interest in working with challenging dogs. We will not consider your resume without this.
What are challenging dogs? The dogs we work with have difficulty with other dogs and/or with new people. Some challenging dogs react to other dogs and new people with a combination of barking, lunging, and growling while others may be extremely shy and fearful. We use a carefully planned process to help dogs get to know us in a slow, non-threatening way. Challenging Dogs Boarding and Daycare does not accept dogs who have serious aggression issues.
How this differs from typical dog sitting: Working with reactive, fearful dogs is different than typical dog sitting. You will learn how to constantly focus on reducing the stress and anxiety that many of our clients’ dogs have. We hire individuals who are genuinely interested in learning about dog behavior and addressing behavior challenges with management and positive reinforcement only.
