Antiwork

Manager and supervisor trying to force me out of my job because I have an aortic aneurysm that I’m on light duty until January for.

I work for a hospital as a staff RN, and one of the most recognized on the unit for always going above and beyond for my coworkers and patients. This past June, I found out I had an aortic aneurysm that will require open heart surgery to repair. I was put on light duty for that. After my hospital stay in June, I had a bout of sepsis from an infection that likely originated at the hospital I work for. I’m still dealing with repercussions of the sepsis and don’t feel myself yet. Fast forward to this past week. I call my surgeon now that my course of antibiotics is over with, and get a surgery date. Fast forward to this past week. I call my surgeon now that my course of antibiotics is over with, and get a surgery date. I tell my supervisor my surgery date (early December) and she asks me “Why is it taking so long for you to get your surgery? Couldn’t you have gotten an earlier date? What’s the hold up?” Over the next few days, she gets angrier and angrier with me any time I speak with her. She starts making up extra work for me to do “because I’m a charge nurse and I’m on light duty and I should be doing more than the other nurses to make up for the fact that I’m on light duty.” In my role, I work 3 10-12 hour days depending on how much there is to do in the unit. I just got a text from my manager that I need to start working a fourth day “because of new expectations on the unit.” I asked her what the new expectation is and she won’t answer over text, just saying we need to have a chat about it later. I’m obviously recording this chat when it’s been had, since it’s something she’s unwilling to say on record, but they’re absolutely trying to force me out.
